Melbourne Sinkhole Swallows Woman Helping Elderly Hang Laundry; Mother Of Six Survives Without Injuries (VIDEO & REPORT)

A Melbourne sinkhole has swallowed a woman, who was just being helpful to an elderly neighbor. Fortunately, after several minutes of fighting for her life, authorities managed to help her out unharmed and without any visible injury.

According to Huffington Post, the incident happened while the mother of six was helping an elderly Melbourne resident hang up the laundry.

The ground where she was standing reportedly opened up and swallowed her, according to Victoria's County Fire Authority. The sinkhole was said to be three-meters deep.

In her conversation with the responding paramedics, the woman said that she landed in a pool of water, so she had to swim up and keep her head above the water to breathe.

Her struggle didn't last shortly since it took at least 20 minutes in order for her neighbours to noticed that she was crying for help from the Melbourne sinkhole.

One neighbour who heard 52-year-old Christina Beaumont crying out for help from the pit quickly alerted local firefighters, reports The Weather Network.

When professional help came, the County Fire Authority rescuers had to use a rope just so they could pull her out of the pit, which was roughly two feet across.

"At one stage her head was under the water," Stephanie Palamberis, one of the responding paramedics, said. "The woman told us she couldn't touch the bottom of the hole, so was trying to swim and stay afloat to avoid the risk of further mud collapse."

Despite the tragic incident, the woman was successfully rescued and she didn't even suffer visible injuries out of it.

Nonetheless, a spokesperson from the CFA said that "she was obviously shaken up."

Following the incident, Beaumont told the authorities that she's totally fine, but she reportedly collapsed later in her home out of shock.

She was immediately rushed to the hospital by family and is currently expected to make a full recovery soon.

An update on the Melbourne sinkhole swallows woman story revealed that the hole was "an isolated incident" since it was a former well which was improperly filled in.
