FBI agents shot near Ferguson early on Wednesday. The two FBI agents were shot and injured at a house that was located in the northern part of St. Louis County, specifically in University City, which is only six miles from Ferguson.
The gunman was dead in an incident that was not related to the racially charged unrest around nearby Ferguson. One of the FBI agents shot near Ferguson was shot in the shoulder, while the other was shot in the leg.
They were only in the area so they could help the local police arrest the 33-year-old Major Washington. Washington was a suspect in a shooting that occurred on Monday night, which ended up with Washington's mother dead and a local police officer shot in the chest.
On Tuesday, the police received a tip that Washington was armed and had barricaded himself inside a house in St. Louis County. They decided to make a move early Wednesday, around 2:53 a.m., with the two FBI agents shot near Ferguson available to help.
The University City police released a statement to the press, stating that the FBI agents were shot and that the suspect "is deceased." However, they refused to give any further details regarding how the suspect died.
This recent incident occurred during a second night of cases of looting and arson in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson. The chaos was only sparked after a grand jury gave a no indictment verdict to a white police man with regards to the fatal shooting of an unarmed black teenager.
Fortunately for the two FBI agents shot near Ferguson and their families, their injuries are believed to be not life threatening. Rebecca Wu, a public affairs specialist and the spokesperson of the FBI, said, "The incident is not directly related to the Ferguson protests."
