Earthquakes Today - Looks like there's another thing California residents should be thankful for this Thanksgiving Thursday. Apparently, a mild earthquake struck the most populous state on the West Coast but no on got hurt, and no significant damage has been made.
According to ABC7News, the earthquakes today hit near Yountville in the afternoon, with a preliminary magnitude of 3.1, and the U.S. Geological Survey says that they have recorded at least three temblors in the area.
The first quake reportedly shook the ground at 10:27 a.m. with a magnitude of 2.5. It was at about 2 miles south of Yountville and 6 miles northwest of Napa, at a depth of 3.4 miles.
Authorities said a mild quake struck at 12:36 p.m. at about 4 miles south-southwest of Yountville, and it had a depth of 5.2 miles.
Approximately six minutes later, another quake with a magnitude of 2.1 was felt 3 miles south of Yountville and 5 miles northwest of Napa. The third one had a depth of 1.4 miles.
The USGS said that the last quake was small and shallow.
Though Napa Valley is considered an earthquake-prone area, there have been no reports of magnitude 3.0 or greater temblors in the past ten days, according to The Associated Press.
A Napa County Sheriff's Office dispatcher said that he only felt the temblor in the afternoon.
He also revealed that the office only got less than 10 calls from people reporting that they felt the first quake in the morning.
All three quakes were considered mild, and no injuries or serious damage were reported after the earthquakes today.
The earthquakes today came just three months after a 6.0-magnitude temblor rocked the same region on Aug. 24. It was considered as the largest quake to have hit Northern California in a quarter-century, reports Oregon Live.
The said quake injured hundreds an killed one woman, and the reported property damage in Napa Valler was at $400 million.
