The $100,000 found at Burger King happened at a California joint early Wednesday. A blue backpack filled with about $100,000 was apparently left behind and police are now trying to determine who the bag's owner is.
The New York Daily News reports that the $100,000 found at Burger King was discovered by an employee of the fast food chain. It was hidden inside an abandoned back pack. The blue book bag was reportedly placed near a table.
It was an assistant manager who spotted the abandoned backpack inside a booth, ABC's San Francisco station KGO reported. She immediately told the restaurant owner of the $100,000 found at Burger King, who then looked inside the bag and saw thick stacks of cash - piles of crisp $50 and $100 bills which totaled $100,000.
The incident of the $100,000 found at Burger King happened as Assistant Manager Sahista Bakawla, who had been wiping down the fast food chain's table tops several times, saw the bag sitting on the booth for quite some time Wednesday. She told KG0-TV that she figured someone would come back for it so she left the bag for a while. She kept seeing the back pack, not knowing it contained $100,000.
Eventually, nobody came back for the bag, so Bakawl picked it up and told her boss about it.
Bakawl added that she hoped they would find identification or a phone number inside the bag.
"I open the zipper, I see lots of money, cash money, $100 bills stack up like half the bag," said Burger King Owner Altaf Chaus.
The incident of the $100,000 found at Burger King proceeded wherein Chaus found a whopping amount of $100 bills inside the bag instead of identification.
"I said, 'Wow! Today's my birthday, this is my birthday gift!'" said Chaus while joking.
Despite the $100,000 found at Burger King, his own restaurant, Chaus chose to do the right thing and called the police.
"I've been in this country 26 years and I worked two jobs for 15 years before I bought this Burger King," he said. "So I'm a very hard-working man. I don't want that money, maybe it belongs to somebody."
Besides the $100,000 found at Burger King inside the bag, San Jose police officers also found a small amount of marijuana, a pack of cigarettes, some candy and bank deposit slip when they searched the bag, according to KGO.
So far, no one has come forward to claim the bag with the $100,000, reports the Associated Press. Local police are now working with the bank to find out the owner of the money, according to ABC News.
