Natale di Roma: Happy Birthday to Italian Capital

Natale di Roma is an annual festival held to celebrate the birth of the Italian capital.

The city of Rome traces its origins back to 753 BC and its inhabitants come together for a huge birthday party on April 21st every year.

Special events take place throughout the city, with colourful parades and lively street performances recreating famous stories and legends from the history of Rome.

Arguably the most famous tale concerns Romulus and Remus, the twin founders of the city who were raised by a she-wolf after being left to die as newborn babies.

People visiting the Eternal City during the festival can also expect plenty of spectacular fireworks displays, live music and museums offering free entry for the day.

Concerts take place at several locations in Rome, including the Pantheon, Circo Massimo and Piazza del Campidoglio.

Although the celebrations are focused on April 21st, there is also usually a programme of special events taking place during the week before.

Visitors planning to book last minute hotels in the city will find a wide variety of accommodation at LateRooms.com, which recommends the Hotel Nerva Colosseo.

This hotel is located in the centre of ancient Rome, close to popular attractions such as the Colosseum, the Piazza Venezia and the Trevi Fountain.
