A Sandy Hook shooting victim's mother is trying to make a difference since the tragic 2012 mass killing took his son's life.
It's already been two years since the tragic Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting happened, but for the victims' families and friends the mass murder is a nightmare that keeps on haunting them and pinning them down while they strive to move on.
As the second anniversary of the mass killing nears, Scarlett Lewis - the mother of 6-year-old Sandy Hook shooting victim, Jesse Lewis - took the time to voice out her thoughts on the incident that not only killed her son, but also took the lives of 19 other kids and six teachers and administrators.
Lewis' wrote the opinion piece for New York Post, and in it, she highlighted her stand on the Child Advocate report, a 114-page report written by health officials with the Connecticut Office of the Child Advocate.
The report provides details on the Newtown gunman Adam Lanza's twisted mind and other key findings on what drove the 20-year-old to carry out the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting.
"n the report, you see consistent red flags throughout Adam Lanza's life. There is a consistent theme of focus on facilitating academic learning and a complete void of social and emotional assistance despite the fact that this was the area in Lanza's development that required attention," Lewis noted.
The grieving mother then continued by saying that she can identify with the struggle of Lanza, who was unable to get the appropriate help he needed for his condition.
"I have been researching and promoting social and emotional learning in schools for the past 20 months and founded the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Foundation to develop and promote these educational programs," she gushed.
"There are over 20 years of scientific research that validate social and emotional learning's efficacy in reducing behavioral issues, anxiety and absenteeism while cultivating more well-rounded, emotionally intelligent, morally conscious citizens - and even improves academic performance! Yet our school system is focused on grades and test scores."
In the end, the Sandy Hook shooting victim's mom quipped that Lanza was not born a mass murderer but was cultivated into doing the mass killing by his environment.
"We need to refocus our educational efforts on social and emotional learning and redefine success in our society - from personal happiness and wealth to well-adjusted, well-rounded children who are good citizens and compassionate humans."
According to PoconoRecord.com, psychologically troubled Lanza killed his mother Nancy before heading to the Newtown school on Dec. 14, 2012 to carry out a random mass murder prior to taking his own life.
