NBA Rumors - Veteran shooting guard Ray Allen has kept his cards close to his chest up to this point of the season, but former his former head coach, Doc Rivers, believed the sharpshooter will eventually decide to come out from his mini-hiatus.
Rivers, who won a championship out of two Finals appearance with Allen, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett with the Boston Celtics, really thinks Allen is making a wise decision to wait until he finds the right team that will help him win another NBA championship.
"Doc Rivers thinks Ray Allen will play again and said he's making the right decision to wait to find a team that needs him," according to Clippers beat writer Ben Bolsch.
Now in his second season as the Clippers head coach, Rivers hoped that Allen would join his team before training camp. However, the NBA's best three-point bomb expert extended his hiatus despite gaining tremendous interest not only from the Clippers, but other contenders as well.
When asked if he's still hoping Allen will join the Clippers, Rivers kidded that his former player might join his team after all.
Does Doc Rivers think Ray Allen will play again? "I think he'll play for us, for sure." Rivers was kidding.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are viewed as the most likely destination for Allen, because of his association with LeBron James, with whom he won his second championship in Miami. The San Antonio Spurs, Chicago Bulls, Dallas Mavericks and the Washington Wizards have extended their offer for the service of the veteran two-guard.
Allen, who turned 39-years old in July, averaged 9.6 points and 2.8 assists while shooting 44 percent from the field and 38 percent from the three-point line in 26 minutes of action in his second and final season with the Heat.
There were speculations that Allen already played his final game in the NBA, but others think the hunger for a third NBA championship will prevail in the end.
