Holt never had the time in her life to head out to the beach. Compared to a few elderly people who had managed to go on adventures during their younger days, Holt had spent all her life in a farm on Tennessee picking cotton and raising her four children. Finally, all thanks to a charity the 100-year old woman saw ocean for the first time.
With the help of Holt's assisted living center and an organization which grants birthday wishes for the elderly, Holt had experienced a once in a lifetime trip. The 100-year old woman sees ocean for the first time in the Gulf of Mexico. Holt felt the exhilarating jolt of having the sand brush up against her feet and the cool sea water washing over it.
The 100-year old woman saw ocean for the first time was accompanied by two health workers from Brookdale's Sterling House. Reports by Daily Mail state Holt laughed delightfully when she was brought to the edge of the beach. Before the trip, Holt had talked about reasons why she had not been able to visit a beach let alone travel.
"There was always something to do. We didn't travel much," says Holt, adding, "I am thrilled to death over it. I know I will enjoy it."
Given the 100-year old woman saw ocean for the first time in Nov., she had not quite expected the cold. Holt repeatedly complained about the cold but was still delighted seeing the majestic Gulf of Mexico.
