Bono serious injuries compelled the singer to cancel his previously scheduled seek-long residency on "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon." After being involved in a bike accident, he had to undergo certain surgeries.
What was not previously reported was precisely how dangerous the accident that occurred was. The bicycle accident reportedly occurred on November 16th in Central Park.
Bono was treated at the Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York. The hospital revealed that the U2 front man had to have two surgical procedures performed on him.
His arm was severely fractured and he had to go under the knife for five hours to have it repaired with three metal plates and 18 screws on Sunday. On Monday, Bono serious injuries had to have surgery on his left hand.
U2 revealed on the band's official website on Monday that their singer had "injured his arm in a cycling spill." The hospital also released a statement regarding Bono's condition. According to the statement, Bono was involved in "a high-energy bicycle accident when he attempted to avoid another rider."
Bono serious injures include a "facial fracture involving the orbit of his eye," a fracture on the left humerus bone of his upper arm and three separate fractures on his left shoulder blade. His humerus injury is believed to be very damaging, since the bone shattered in six different places, some of which tore through his skin.
Dean Lorich, an orthopedic trauma surgeon in the hospital, said, "He will require intensive and progressive therapy. However, a full recovery is expected."
It has certainly been tough month for Bono. Just earlier this month, he was riding a private plane when its rear door suddenly fell off its hinges. They had to have an emergency landing in Berlin. Luckily, none of the passengers were injured. It would appear that Bono was not as lucky this time around.
