DuPont Gas Leak Killed Four Workers in Texas [VIDEO+REPORT]

Four workers killed in DuPont chemical plant in Texas while one is rushed to the hospital after a gas leaked on Saturday.

According to the recent reports, the workers wherein two of them were brothers were responding to the gas leaked and were later on overcome at around 4 AM. The leaking gas was identified as the methyl mercaptan which gives off a foul odor like that of a rotting egg when mixed with an odorless natural gas. According to the company, the incident was contained at about 6AM while another hospitalized worker remains under observation although his injury is said to be less serious.

In a report from the New York Times, the incident in DuPont allegedly happened when a valve on the container of the methyl mercaptan started to malfunction. While the cause of the gas leak is known, there is still a mystery as to why the four workers were killed. All the 800 employed workers in the chemical plant is said to have the skills and training in identifying any potential chemical hazards and on how to secure help.

While the strong odor of the said gas is carried in the air, DuPont company spokesman Aaron Woods said that it does not impose any potential hazard as air quality tests came back normal. He also said that the gas dissipates once it reached the air and that the strong odor will be gone soon. Names of the four workers killed in the incident were not publicly revealed, but the company says that one of the workers has been with the company for almost 40 years.

Plant manager Randall Clements said regarding the incident that they are doing their own separate review about the recent incident in DuPont and that they are going to cooperate with the authorities when they find any relevant data particularly to the contributing factors that killed the four workers.
