"Mindy Project" has more episodes this season after Fox ordered an additional six because of its stable television viewership and a slight boost when DVR viewing is considered.
Fox announced Friday that an additional six episodes will be added to this season's lineup of just 15, bringing the total of Season 3 to 21, according to TV Line.
While the show is technically struggling with maintaining its ratings this season, the network's decision to have more 'Mindy Project' episodes was made since producers still have faith in the comedy to bring up its numbers.
This season, Mindy Kaling's series has been raking an average of 3.1 million viewers for every episode.
Interestingly, once DVR viewing is factored in, the ratings of the show get a significant boost, which may have also motivated the network to order from "Mindy Project" more episodes.
The additional six episodes are expected to give fans more interesting things to watch out for, especially the storyline of its latest guest star, Lee Pace, reports AVClub.
The "Guardians of the Galaxy" and "Pushing Daisies" star is set to appear as Alex, "a handsome San Francisco tech millionaire who took Mindy's virginity back when he was a dorky college student."
So far this season has been receiving a lot of attention for its lineup of guest stars, including "Cheers" veteran Rhea Perlman, who plays the recurring role of Danny's mom, "Getting On" star Neicy Nash, "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" actor Rob McElhenney and "Fargo" star Allison Tolman, as per an E! News report.
So what can fans expect from the upcoming episode? Mindy Kaling, who plays Dr. Mindy Lahiri says, "We just pitched it to the network that we're going to be going somewhere after Christmas, and there's a really great roster of people that she meets there." She then added, "I like those episodes of like Lost where the character goes to a new place, or like The Walking Dead, where we meet like six new weirdoes. And you kind of fall in love with them."
"The Mindy Project" airs Tuesdays at 9:30 p.m. EST on FOX.
