Father sings Blackbird to his son inside the neonatal intensive care unit of the Loma Linda University Children's Hospital was caught in video. The video, in turn, has quickly gone viral the day after the baby boy died and also four days after the baby's mother died in her sleep.
Chris Picco, the father, wrote on his wife's memorial fund page, "Dear friends, family, and supporters, it is with an unbelievable heavy heart that I write this. My little fighter, Lennon James Picco went to sleep in his daddy's arms late last night."
This memorial fund was set up by Loma Linda University Church and Garden Pediatrics worked hard to raise $50,000 in memory of Ashely Picco. Its purpose was to help Chris Picco with the medical expenses. As of Friday morning, over $110,000 has been raised.
The video of the father sings Blackbird was posted on YouTube on Wednesday. The clip shows Picco on his guitar as he was singing to his baby boy, who, in turn, was pretty indistinguishable among the mass of blankets, tubes, and lights inside his NICU crib.
As mentioned by the clip's YouTube information, baby Lennon was delivered by emergency C-section at 24 weeks on Sunday when his mother, Ashley Picco, suddenly and unexpectedly died while she was sleeping.
Coincidentally, the famous video was filmed the day before little Lennon passed away. Picco noted that while his wife was still pregnant, Lennon tended to move whenever music was played. With this in mind, he asked the NICU staff if he could bring his guitar inside the unit so he could play for his son. He was able to play for hours during the last days of his son's life.
By morning of Friday, the YouTube video of father sings Blackbird had been viewed over six million times.
