Contact lenses blamed for numerous eye infections affecting many individuals.
According to a recent report released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), almost one million Americans are actually having check-ups that are related to the use of the said medical device. CDC seemed to have notice the increasing rate of patients seeking treatment for the impairment in their vision. According to CDCs earlier report dated in 2010, there are already 930,000 individuals who have made an appointment with their doctors while the other 58,000 had a visit to any emergency department in the United States for microbial keratitis.
The development of microbial keratitis is actually an infection to the eyes which is caused by different microorganisms such as that of bacteria, fungi or viruses. The contamination of the delicate layers from someone's organ can cause other related disease and eventually blindness, if not treated properly. Wearing contact lenses also reportedly plays a huge role to the said contamination especially if it is not used in a correct way.
Contact lenses or also simply called as contacts originally plays a great role for someone's clear vision while it is also considered as a medical device. The said device originally aims to assist an individual to achieve clearer eyesight especially if that person does not prefer to wear an eyeglass; however, using it also means that there is a huge risk of contracting different kinds of eye infection particularly if the user is not observing the necessary precautions attached to it.
While there is an estimated number of 38 million users of the said device, CDC has recommended necessary measures to prevent eye infections. It includes hand washing before handling the said device, removing the contact lenses before going to bed or swimming, rubbing it with disinfectant solution before being used as well as replacing it every three months.
