Black Tusk's Jonathan Athon reportedly died last Saturday after getting into a tragic vehicular accident when his motorcycle collided with an SUV. The famous bassist passed away at the age of 32.
On the evening of Nov. 8, Black Tusk's Jonathan Athon apparently got into a serious motorcycle accident in Savannah, GA, which led to his death following a medically induced coma at a nearby hospital, Metal Injection reports.
The morning after the accident, the band sent out a confirmation notice that Black Tusk's Jonathan Athon has died.
"It is with deep regret and saddened hearts that we must tell you that Athon passed away this morning from injuries sustained from his motorcycle accident," the band said in the statement.
"Doctors told us that he suffered irreparable brain damage shortly after the accident. He has been in a coma and sustained by life support until now. As per his wishes, we removed Athon from his life support systems and his organs will be donated," Black Tusk added on the official statement.
The band also noted in the statement that Athon's remains will be cremated, with a memorial service being planned by his loved ones.
"His body will be cremated and a memorial is being planned for family and friends in Savannah. He was 32 years old and will be forever missed. Thank you all for your support during this devastating time for us, it would have made him proud," the band finally said.
On social media, several artists paid tribute to the Black Tusk bassist.
"R.I.P. Jonathan Athon! You will be missed. Much love to our bros in Black Tusk right now," The Atlas Moth posted on Facebook.
"We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of our friend Jonathan Athon from Black Tusk. Our thoughts and love go out to his friends and family, and particularly his bandmates," KEN Mode also wrote on Facebook.
"He had an insatiable appetite to fix things, an uncompromising honesty, and an enviable ambition to learn new skills. He was a unique person to say the least, hard working till the end, and with a lust for life that sometimes left us all spinning," fellow Savannah band Baroness posted on their Facebook page.
"Words cannot express... We love you Athon. You helped change the world. 13stardrums @blacktusk," HULL tweeted.
Jonathan Athon was one of the sludge-metal trio comprising Black Tusk, a band that was formed in 2005, according to Stereo Gum.
The band managed to release four full-length albums: the first one being "The Fallen Kingdom," which was released in 2007, and the last one being "Set The Dial," which they released in 2011.
The latest release of the band was their "Vulture's Eye" EP, which came out early this year.
