Phil Jackson Adam Silver did not go so well. The Knicks president did not appreciate how the NBA commissioner shared his thoughts on his team's new triangle offense.
According to Silver, it "clearly" looked like as if the Knicks were "still learning" the triangle after they lost to the Detroit Pistons last Wednesday. Just recently, Phil Jackson decided to address these relatively insensitive comments from the commissioner.
Silver's exact words were, "I watched the Knicks' game last night," he stated while laughing. "Clearly, they're still learning the triangle. I still don't understand it, but they're learning it. But that's what the game is all about. You have a new coach."
"You have a new president of basketball operations in Phil Jackson," Silver added. "You have a couple new players on the team."
"I wasn't so humored by the commissioner actually jumping in on top of that, too," Jackson said. "He doesn't need to get in on that. There's enough focus on the triangle. It's not anything. It's a system. It's simple basketball. Just play the game. We're over the triangle. Let's get to business and play the right way."
Jackson, who was unprompted, also decided to have a Phil Jackson Adam Silver exchange. He offered his thoughts on the commission during a session with reports before the Knicks lost to the Atlanta Hawks on Monday night.
It would seem that the Knicks struggled on both ends of the floor through this season's first eight games. Coach Derek Fisher mentioned that some of their players were a bit tentative while running the triangle offense.
"They're still quite a ways from their execution capability as a team. And this is going to happen," Jackson added. "It's all part of the process."
Phil Jackson also told his team's coaches that they must expect the team to struggle quite a bit early on this season due to the team's extremely difficult schedule. The Knicks have played for eight games in the first 12 days this season. Seven of these games were against teams that made it to the playoffs in 2013-14.
