The Los Angeles Dodgers are apparently leaning towards blowing up the core of their star-studded roster following a report that the team is aggressively shopping infielder Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier and Carl Crawford on the trading block, a source close to situation disclosed on Monday.
Veteran MLB insider Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reported the Dodgers are really looking to get rid of their outfielders to solve a logjam in that position. However, the Dodgers have made clear that Yasiel Puig is untouchable as of now from any trade negotiation.
"The Dodgers are aggressively marketing Matt Kemp, Carl Crawford, and Andre Ethier, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports in a series of tweets (one, two, three)," via MLB Trade Rumors.
"The club is swimming in depth with Yasiel Puig, Scott Van Slyke, and Joc Pederson also in the mix for big league reps. L.A. is willing to kick in significant money depending on the return. Some teams are interested in the left-handed bats, while Kemp is drawing wide interest. Puig is "not in play."
The Boston Red Sox has been monitoring Kemp's situation for awhile, and even considered trading for the outfielder by trade deadline. With the Dodgers finally open to move on without Kemp, it won't be surprising if the Red Sox would make another run for the service of the All-Star outfielder to boost their offensive firepower.
Meanwhile, there's no shortage of interest for Ethier and Crawford, as both left-handed power hitters are already drawing notice from several teams. The Detroit Tigers were rumored interested in acquiring these key cogs, but they would like to get their man on a bargain price.
According to Bleacher Report writer Tim Keeney, the timing of the trade rumor might be too early but there's no doubt the Dodgers are really looking for a revamp after the free-spending franchise failed to reach the World Series once again.
"The Dodgers would likely have to eat a significant portion of the contract in order to get a nice haul in return, but with a stacked outfield and Joc Pederson waiting in the wings, it may be worth it," according to Keeney.
