Lane Evans Dies at 63; Former U.S. Congressman Ends Battle with Parkinson’s Disease

Lane Evans, a U.S. former congressman dies from a long battle with Parkinson's disease on Wednesday at the age of 63.

According to the recent report, the country has again lost one of its dedicated former public servants. The sad news was recently confirmed by Mike Malmstrom, the politician's legal guardian. After years of combatting the said degenerative disorder of the central nervous system, he reportedly died in a nursing home in East Moline, Illinois.

Malmstorm who was one of the late politician's staff and later on became his legal guardian confirmed that the former congressman died in Hope Creek Care Center wherein he lived there for almost two years.

"The disease itself had come to the point that it took its toll," Malmstrom said in a recent interview.

Before becoming a dedicated public servant to the citizens of the U.S., Lane Evans was first a committed American who served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. In 1977, he earned his graduate degree in law in Georgetown University and began practicing his profession in Rock Island where he served children, the poor and the families.

The late attorney started his career in politics when he ran and won the Illinois' 17th congressional district in 1982. Lane Evans then continued to serve the public as congressman until his retirement in November 2006. With his passing, many people closed to him have expressed their sorrow.

According to Chicago Tribune, Sen. Dick Durbin said Illinois "lost one of its kindest, most caring public servants."

"He was a champion for our region in the halls of Congress and a strong advocate for veterans and working families across the country" Rep. Cheri Bustos said about the late public servant.

Lane Evans' diagnosis with Parkinson's disease on 1995, but it did not stop him from serving his fellow men. The former congressman was never married and died single.
