Sophia Loren reveals the story behind her famous side-eye moment with Jayne Mansfield in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly.
It has been 57 years since the controversial celebrity photo surfaced, but the real reason behind that most talked about stare was just recently revealed. Taken in 1957, the said photo was captured during an A-list party in the Beverly Hills. Since then, it is labeled as the most well-known case of celebrity shade-throwing.
According to an article from Huffington Post, Vanity Fair said that the particular event many years ago was actually thrown to welcome Sophia Loren to Hollywood as she became the most photographed performer during the 1955 Cannes Film Festival. Jayne Mansfield who at that time was celebrating her 24th birthday also appeared in the party where she became the last person to arrive in a revealing dress.
After making many films in the entertainment industry, it is only now that the Italian beauty publicly revealed the real reason behind that look she gave to the late American actress. At the age of 80, she also told in the interview with EW that she was actually asked for an autograph in the said photo; however, she also confessed that she never did.
Explaining about the controversial photo wherein Sophia Loren can be seen giving what appeared to be an unpleasant look to her fellow celebrity. According to the Italian stunner, both of her eyes were fixed at Jayne Mansfield nipples as she's afraid for it to come out.
"She sat down. And now, she was barely ... Listen. Look at the picture. Where are my eyes? I'm staring at her nipples because I am afraid they are about to come onto my plate." Loren said.
Sophia Loren released her memoir entitled "Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow: My Life" wherein she discussed the said 1957 party with Jayne Mansfield.
