Benedict Cumberbatch has finally announced his engagement to long-time girlfriend, Sophie Hunter, a renowned theatre director. While Cumberbatch is celebrating over his engagement, the Internet has exploded over the engagement.

Who exactly is Hunter and where in the world has Cumberbatch been hiding her? Surprisingly, Hunter isn't just another run-of-the-mill Hollywood star. She's a bilingual and not to mention an Oxford graduate. Hunter is best known for being a theatre director, and all thanks to theatre she had met Cumberbatch. Sophie Hunter and Benedict Cumberbatch have been dating since the year 2009 after meeting in "Burlesque Fairytales."

Like his character in "Sherlock," Cumberbatch had a hard time picking out potential mates. His sister shared he had "trouble with girlfriends." Before Hunter, Cumberbatch dated Olivia Poulet for almost 12 years but split. Thankfully, Sophie Hunter and Benedict Cumberbatch's' relationship stood the test of time. Now, an engagement has already been announced.

The announcement of Sophie Hunter and Benedict Cumberbatch's' engagement was made on the Times. The announcement reads: "Mr B.T. Cumberbatch and Miss S.I. Hunter. The engagement is announced between Benedict, son of Wanda and Timothy Cumberbatch of London, and Sophie, daughter of Katharine Hunter of Edinburgh and Charles Hunter of London."

Following the announcement of Sophie Hunter and Benedict Cumberbatch's' engagement, the Internet exploded with memes of the "Sherlock" star no longer being available. Fans of the British actor, particularly females, are nursing a broken heart after the post was made public on the Times. Before the engagement however, Cumberbatch had openly talked about the idea of marriage.

"I can imagine I'll look back at this point in my life and think: 'Wow that was really extraordinary.' But at the same time I hope I'm looking back and going, 'Oh, that was the moment I got on with life and realized things beyond myself. Without using words like 'marriage,' 'children' and 'family'-although I have just used those words-put it this way, I hope I've got other people to look back with me at that point. I hope I'm surrounded by family," stated Cumberbatch in a report by E! Online.
