Now that the ban has been lifted, Americans can finally travel to Cuba. Cuba is an ideal spot because it combines sightseeing and relaxation as well as being off the beaten track. Unfortunately, Americans cannot fly on their own into Cuba, but instead with a tour group or cruise. But the culture, history, beauty, and flavor of Cuba are well worth the travel restrictions.
Havana is the perfect place to learn about the history of Cuba, witness the baroque and neoclassical architecture, as well as view one of the oldest colonial fortresses in the Americas. Havana is a world UNESCO site, and there are many places to see that tell about Cuban culture. Some of the major sites are the Old Square, the National Museum of Beautiful Arts of Cuba, the Plaza de la Catedral, and many more.
Other than history and culture, Cuba also has some of the best beaches in the world. Playo Paraiso was awarded the 2014 Travelers Choice award on Trip Advisor, and is rated number 11 out of the top 25 beaches in the world. The weather is pleasant all year round at paradise beach.
The first of the two main options for traveling to Cuba are either through a tour group with People-to-People licenses that allow exchange between Cubans and Americans. This would be an interesting opportunity to learn about Cuban customs from the perspective of the natives. This would be the top choice for people who really want to get a cultural experience during their trip. For the people who want to see the main sites of Cuba without having to follow a tour, a cruise would be the best bet.
There is an abundance of unique activities worth checking out for such a small country. Hopefully in the next few years Americans will be able to travel there completely hassle free!
