China laser cannon - The country has boasted of their new creation, which is the laser cannon that can allegedly shoot down drones within a radius of 1.2 miles. China has yet to release photos of the said laser cannon but according to their descriptions it resembles that of "Star Wars" laser-like cannons.
What use is the China laser cannon anyway? Well, for China the use is mainly to shoot down a number of drones particularly those from spies and terrorists entering their restricted zones. The government defense agency, China Academy of Engineering Physics, had come up with the China laser cannon that can reportedly spot drones and shoot it in five seconds flat.
"Intercepting such drones is usually the work of snipers and helicopters, but their success rate is not as high and mistakes with accuracy can result in unwanted damage," stated Yi Jinsong of China Hi-Tech Equipment Co. in a report by UPI.
The China laser cannon is supposedly like that of "Star Wars'" laser cannon meant to be mounted on a vehicle or placed on the ground. The cannon can shoot down drones within a radius of 1.2 miles below 1,600 feet. Drones that fly up to 112 mph can still be targeted by the China laser cannon.
According to Xinhua, Chinese news agency, a recent test done on the China laser cannon proves its efficacy. The laser managed to shoot down 30 drones without missing a single target. The report even adds that the cannon might be used to replace the need for military personnel or police in shooting down the threat of drones.
The latest China laser cannon is still at its initial phase. The agency of China's defense claims they are still planning to create a bigger and more powerful laser cannon. This would cover a bigger range and shoot even larger drones that threaten to enter China's air space.
