The Los Angeles Lakers have made a minor move four games into their season by signing a NBA D-League veteran, while another young stud recently waived is being monitored as another potential acquisition, according to sources close to situations.
Defensive Big Man Coming: The Los Angeles Lakers has finally brought a shotblocker to give their more interior presence on the defensive end, signing Texas A&M Corpus Christie Alumnus and Eire Bayhawks bigman Chris Daniels on Monday.
The Lakers announced on its official website on Monday that they have inked Daniels to undisclosed deal, per team policy. The 7-foot, 265 pound center was a former first round pick of the 2011 NBA Draft, and is averaging 16.2 points (.517 FG%), 11.4 rebounds and 2.20 blocks in 32.2 minutes through five games in the NBA Developmental League this season.
Daniels' signing was the first move taken by the Lakers to improve their lineup since the season-ending injury to rookie power forward Julius Randle, who suffered a broken tibia in his NBA debut against the Houston Rockets.
Based on Daniels' ability, the Lakers hope their latest big man will provide quality minutes at the five spot behind Robert Sacre and starting center Jordan Hill, who has become the Lakers' second-best scorer at 14 points per game behind Kobe Bryant (at least 24 points per game).
Wing Scorer Could Arrive Soon: Aside from Daniels, the Lakers are reportedly in position to sign Quincy Miller, who has just been waived by the Denver Nuggets on Monday.
Miller, who averaged 4.9 points and 2.8 rebounds per game last season while recording 36.7 percent clip from the field and 31.9% from beyond the arc and 70.9% from the free throw line, is drawing interest from several teams, including the Lakers, according to Real GM.
"Free agent Quincy Miller has received several inquiries from NBA teams since joining the available market on Monday, with the Los Angeles Lakers as leading suitors for the forward, league sources told RealGM," reports Shams Charania of Real GM."The Houston Rockets and Indiana Pacers also have registered levels of intrigue in Miller, sources said."
Signing Miller would give the Lakers a proven scorer at the wing, giving the team depth at the small forward spot behind starter Wesley Johnson - who is more of a defensive oriented player.
