Lava Threatens Town: Pahoa Village Residents Evacuate, Lava Flow From Kilauea Volcano Continues, How Do Residents Survive With Lava Threat?

Lava threatens town - A stream of lava from the Kilauea volcano continues to threaten the lives of residents in the Hawaii town, Pahoa. Despite the fact that a Hawaiian town had been swallowed by lava almost 30 years past, this has not stopped residents from living in close proximity to the threat of lava flow.

In one residential area of Pahoa, lava of 50-meters in width has already crossed through the fence. Officials claim that the lava threatened town is 250 meters close to Pahoa Village Road. The said road is the main street in the town of Pahoa.

"The activity on the flow front is very inactive, very sluggish," stated Darryl Oliveira, the director of Hawaii County Civil Defence.

The lava threatens town residents and the commercial district. Around 1,000 residents have already been evacuated from Pahoa. Officials' state the arrival of the 900 degree molten lave from Kilauea volcano is "inevitable." Thousands more residents have been asked to prepare for the evacuation from lava threatening town.

"These are local troops, people from the community," added Oliveira. "They'll be here working to take care of their family and friends."

The lava threatening town reportedly begun in June 27. Yet, the Kilauea volcano has known to be active since the year 1983. This is why some residents in the Hawaiian town have learned to live with the threat of lava.

Homes by Hawaiian residents are easily moved on trucks when lava threatens town. Ed Elarth, one resident of Kalapana, is quite used to the threat of lava that he's been moving his house from one spot to the next.

"I'd just bring it back later. It would just be a little higher up," shared Elarth in an exclusive report by ABC News. As for the lava threatening town of Pahoa, evacuations continue.
