Lake Shore Drive Waves Closed: High Waves Hit Lakeshore, Washed Out Haunted House Attraction Amid Halloween Celebration (+VIDEO)

Lake Shore Drive Waves Closed - Halloween isn't going to well in Lake Shore Drive as high waves make traveling the said road quite exhausting and far too risky, Sun Times has learned.

On Friday afternoon, high waves hit the Chicago lakefront area, which remained covered with flood until early Saturday, leaving many motorists with no choice than to brave flooded road of Lake Shore Drive.

"Due to high winds causing water to flow onto Lake Shore Drive, there is a lane reduction in place on northbound Lake Shore Drive from Oak Street to North Avenue," OEMC spokesperson Melissa Stratton said.

Making the situation even worse and more compromising is the washing out of a haunted house attraction at Navy Pier.

The haunted house which sits on a floating barge called Zombie Containment was reportedly washed out and eventually sunk into the lake.

Some attractions - including the Ferris Wheel, End Plaza, and Grand Ballroom - at Navy Pier have since been closed by its management because of the weather and a spokesman revealed that the wind and waves have damaged certain parts of the Navy Pier.

Boat cruises aboard the Mystic Blue and Spirit of Chicago were also canceled since Friday night, noted CBS Local Chicago.

Though it's quite risky, the Lake Shore Drive wasn't closed because of the waves. Instead, authorities advised drivers to navigate with caution.

"We are urging motorists to drive with caution and recommending they use an alternate route in the meantime," Stratton said. "We will continue to monitor conditions and coordinate with all relevant City departments and agencies to ensure the safety of motorists."

She also added that the departments of Streets & Sanitation and Water Management are already "working to remove water off of the Drive," noting that Streets & San tow trucks, as well as a couple of street sweepers, are already dealing with the flood by clearing drains and catch basins in the area.

While the main road continues to allow the travel of motorists, the Lake Shore Drive bike path has been closed until further notice from Ohio to Oak because of the high waves, said Chicago Police.

An updated report from ABC 7 states that some lanes of Chicago's Lake Shore Drive have been closed from North Avenue to Division Street.

Cars were said to be moving in a single file line since the waves started to crash around the three lines near the water.

Authorities said that at one point traffic from both directions had to stop since the waves reached the southbound side.
