The Evil Within has filtered gore, or, at least, its Japanese version does. The game still has its creepy tone, but it is not as bloody and gory as its Western version.
Japanese fans of the game will be ecstatic to find out that they can have access to a downloadable uncensored of the game.
Kotaku UK has pointed out that the retail version of the game is censored. If the gamers download the Gore Mode DLC of The Evil Within, they can get to play a much bloodier version of the scary game. It is included in the package as a pre-order bonus.
The regular version of The Evil Within does not allow its players to shoot the heads of its zombie-like creatures. For those who are looking forward to a gore-filled zombie-killing action, they must have the Gore Mode.
The same goes with the standard killing method. In the regular version, the enemies cannot be blown to pieces. However, with the Gore Mode DLC, enemies can be seen exploding into a million pieces.
It was immediately assumed that the Gore Mode of The Evil Within can make the game quite similar to its Western counterpart. Sadly, that assumption would be incorrect.
Famitsu has pointed out that, even when the Gore Mode DLC was used, the Japanese version is still not exactly the same as its Western version. There will still be tad bit of censorship.
The Evil Within version that has the gore pack is considered to be the Japanese equivalent of Adults Only. Gamers can shoot zombies right in between their eyes and can blow their enemies to smithereens, but dismemberment for the human characters is not allowed, even in the Gore Mode's "uncensored" version.
The Evil Within was just recently released in Japan, where its title is Psycho Break.
