Nathan Horton injury could mark the end of his career. The forward player of the Columbus Blue Jacket might bid adieu to his team and career after the reported "degeneration of the entire lumbar region of his spine or lower back." At the early age of 29, even if surgery could be done on Horton, there has been no guarantee that he'd get any better.
In a report by Columbus Dispatch, Nathan Horton's injury back in April could potentially damage his career. Fans who had seen him play in the ice before April is undoubtedly the last time they'd see the Columbus Blue Jacket forward in action.
Unlike the usual injuries of athletes wherein after surgery and rehab it's back to the game, Nathan Horton's injury is of the severe kind. The Columbus Blue Jacket player had been diagnosed with the "degeneration of the entire lumbar region of his spine." Surgery has been eyed as the last resort but there is no chance of relief.
"The Blue Jackets aren't ready to move on without injured right wing Nathan Horton yet. But optimism is fading that Horton will be able to play this season, and there's growing concern that the 29-year-old's career might be finished. Surgery has not been scheduled or ruled out but it is viewed as a last resort, sources said. It's a delicate procedure, with no guarantee of relief," reports Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch.
Before Nathan Horton's injury, the power forward was a vital part of the 2011 win for the Boston Bruins. The Bruins won the Stanley cup that year and after the big win Horton had signed on with the Columbus Blue Jackets for a whopping $37.1 million.
"Nathan is a frustrated kid right now. This is normally a really easygoing guy, a happy guy, but he's just so frustrated by all of this," added Horton's agent, Paul Krepelka, regarding Nathan Horton's injury and what could be the end of his career.
