Bear eats man outside his home in Northern California. The man who was eaten had reportedly died because of a heart attack before the bear devoured him.
The bear eats man reportedly dragged his body away before eating it, said medical officials last Friday. The bear was found to be sheltering quite nearby the man's house.
The 65-year-old victim, Marion Williams, walked to a water source, which was believed to be around 100 yards away, from his trailer in Humoldt County, when he suddenly suffered a cardiac arrest. The incident was believed to have happened on October 8th. This was according to the findings of the Humboldt County Deputy Coroner, Roy Horton.
The bear eats man apparently saw his lifeless body, or smelled it, and dragged it away further away from sight. "The bear saw the opportunity for a food source and took advantage of it," said Horton. He even added that the bear stripped Williams off his clothes and his necklace, feeding on his body for a few days.
Horton continued, "The bear did eat most of this guy. He was about 85% consumed."
Williams' close friends started to worry about him on October 11th, as they had trouble contacting him, and called the Sheriff's department. They even went to his property only to be shocked as they were met with the odor of a decaying body, only to find out that it was the body of their missing friend.
Horton reiterated that the bear eats man was only acting on its natural impulses after finding Williams' lifeless body sprawled out on the ground. He also added that black bears are normally timid creatures that do not act on aggressive drives.
Additionally, wildlife officials in California released a report that there have been no reports of fatal maulings by black bears within the area.
