Pumpkin Fest arrests - In New Hampshire, a pumpkin festival went totally out of hand. On the weekend alone, 49 arrests had been made and 30 people noted to have had sustained injuries. Out of the 30 injured, 20 people have been brought to the hospital. What went wrong that led to the pumpkin fest arrests?
A night of good, clean pumpkin fun had led to a night of riot at Keene, N.H. During the pumpkin festival held annually, at least 14 pumpkin fest arrests had been recorded the morning of Sunday. 12 injuries were noted as well.
"I watched cops roll in, I watched the fire department roll in, I watched state troopers roll in with their batons out, ready to take on the crowd. It was crazy," stated a graduate from Keene State, Julie Conlon to the Boston Globe.
The Globe's report added that long before pumpkin fest arrests were made the crowd near Keene State College were already exhibiting violent behaviours. A car had been flipped over, street signs had been uprooted, bottles were thrown at one another and fires had been set all over the area.
"There were about 4,000 kids in this backyard, and it almost felt like a war zone. People were just throwing everything they could find - rocks, skateboards, buckets, pumpkins. It was actually kind of scary," stated Keene State sophomore, Ellery Murray.
Despite the pumpkin fest arrests made, over 200 volunteers had shown up on Sunday to clean up remains of the violent night. Vice president of Keene State, Mallory Pearce had organized the clean-up.
"We all recognize that we made a mistake, and we're going to do better next year. We're not going to let this happen again," stated Pearce.
The pumpkin fest arrests made that night total to 49 while 30 people have been reported to be injured during the riot.
