Estela restaurant NYC rejected President Barack Obama's credit card. It looks like being the ruler of the free world does not stop one's credit card from being declined.
President Obama spoke at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau recently that his credit card was rejected at Thomas Carter and Ignacio Matto's Estela restaurant NYC last month. "I guess I don't use it enough," the President explained. "So, they thought there was fraud going on."
It was a good thing that First Lady Michelle Obama had her credit card handy. The President recalled, "Luckily, Michelle had hers. I was trying to explain to the waitress that I've really been paying my bills."
The Obamas were in New York for the annual United Nations General Assembly session last September, when they opted to grab a bite at the Estela restaurant NYC in downtown Manhattan.
The restaurant also posted a picture of the Obamas' kitchen order online, indicating that they dined on burrata with salsa verde and charred bread, with a side order of endive salad topped with walnuts and anchovies.
The Estela restaurant NYC is actually run by a former employee at Blue Hill at Stone Barns, which is a farm-to-table mecca that is located in Hudson Valley. This was the same area where the Obamas' personal chef was married, which the entire Obama family attended just this summer.
President Obama was at the financial agency last Friday for the signing of an executive order that bolsters security measures for government-issued credit cards.
The Estela restaurant NYC, on the other hand, prides itself as having "American food with European influences," featuring interestingly delicious food, such as lamb ribs with charmoula and honey for $21 and fried arroz negro squid and romesco for $23. Food critics have always praised the menu, but pointing out that the bill can ultimately skyrocket.
