Obama Card Declined - One of the most interesting news about the U.S. President came today when he revealed that his credit card was declined at a fancy New York restaurant.
According to USA Today, President Barack Obama's card was "rejected" last month while he was visiting the United Nations.
In his funny recount of the story which is now referred to as the 'Obama card declined' story, the President gushed that he was at a New York restaurant with his wife, Michelle, when the employees of the establishment prompted him that his credit card was denied.
"It turned out I guess I don't use it enough -- so they thought there was some fraud going on. Fortunately, Michelle had hers," Obama explained on Friday at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, reports NBC News.
The 53-year-old then said that he started to explain to the waitress why his card was rejected.
"I was trying to explain to the waitress, 'No really, I think that I've, uh, been paying my bills.' So even I'm affected by this," he said.
The President gushed about the 'Obama card declined' story while he was signing an executive order on identity theft.
"Even I'm affected by this," he quipped while signing the papers.
The executive order reportedly mandates that chip-and-pin technology should be used in federal government credit and debit cards since this provide new help for identity theft victims.
Additionally, this technology also works with businesses since it encourages more identity theft prevention measures.
Interestingly, Press Secretary Josh Earnest poked fun at the 'Obama card declined' story after saying the he is still not sure of the current status of the President's credit card.
"It's unclear whether he left a tip at the bottom of the executive order," Earnest joked.
Meanwhile, Estela restaurant employees declined to divulge further details on the incident involving President Obama's credit card.
Nonetheless, food blog Epicurius managed to get the details on what the first couple ordered at the restaurant.
The food blog revealed that during the U.N. General Assembly, Barack and Michelle Obama ordered "two orders of endive salad and burrata with salsa verde, tomatoes, and salt cod croquettes."
Identity theft is a growing problem in the country. An estimated 100 million people have reportedly been affected by security breaches in the past year alone, most commonly at retailers like Home Depot and Target, according to ABC News.
