Charice Pempengco was asked by Oprah Winfrey if she has ever considered having a gender reassignment surgery. The former "Glee" star came out as a lesbian last year, even applying some changes to her image such as cutting her locks off into a relatively masculine hairstyle.
This bizarre question from the media mogul was most likely prompted by the obvious changes in the pop star's appearance. Winfrey asked the 22-year-old "Pyramid" singer, "Were you thinking about transitioning to become a male?"
Charice Pempengco appeared on Winfrey's show back in 2010 around the same time that she released her first studio album, Charice. Moreover, Winfrey also heralded the star by referring to her as "the most talented girl in the world."
She was first noticed all over the world as a teenage singing sensation, having YouTube videos that garnered over 15 million views. She became even more popular when she joined the cast of "Glee" during the show's second season, as she played the role of Sunshine Corazon, an exchange student, whom Rachel Barry, played by Lea Michele, became quite jealous of.
Then, she looked pretty girly, with her long shiny black hair. Now, though, she sports a blonde buzz cut.
She was interviewed by Boy Abunda, a Filipino talk show host, on "The Buzz," and she opened up about her sexuality. "Yes. I am tomboy," she told Abunda. "Tomboy" being the Filipino slang for lesbian.
"I don't know what the problem with that is because for me, there isn't a problem with that. Now, I'd like to ask for forgiveness from those who aren't able to understand," the singer said.
Charice Pempengco then added, "I just want to say 'thank you' personally to all my fans, to all the people who are still supporting me, who are still there for me. And, honestly, I am very, very happy."
