Richard Gere and Padma Lakshmi have officially broken up after dating each other for six months. They first started spending time with one another this past spring, amid the "Pretty Woman" actor's divorce from Carey Lowell, his wife of 11 years.
Both Lakshmi and Gere have not acknowledged the previous reports that they were dating. They were also never photographed together in public. However, an insider informed Us Weekly that, at the time, they were "having fun."
"It started very recently and quietly. It's very new," the tipster revealed last April. "I wouldn't even go as far as calling them a couple. They are dating. It's the first time Padma has dated anyone since Teddy Forstmann, and it's something she's been approaching very, very delicately."
The source then added, "They're just getting to know each other. They're just having fun."
The 65-year-old Richard Gere separated from Lowell in September of last year. They have a teenage son together, Homer. Gere also used to be married to famed international supermodel, Cindy Crawford, from 1991 to 1995.
The 44-year-old "Top Chef" host, on the other hand, has a 4-year-old daughter, Krishna, with her former boyfriend, Adam Dell. Before she dated the late Forstmann, who died back in 2011, she was also married to the writer Salman Rushdie for three years.
Lakshmi was recently interviewed about her love life, and she confirmed that she was single. A source has confirmed to Fox News that the couple "decided they would be better as friends" since they were both pretty busy with their work.
In fact, Richard Gere was preoccupied filming Oren Moverman's "Time Out of Mind." He plays the role of a homeless man in this movie. It was screened over the weekend as part of the New York Film Festival as well as the Hamptons International Film Festival.
