Johnny Manziel was almost selected by Jerry Jones, during the NFL Draft, as many fans would have expected. Now, though, it would seem that the owner of the Cowboys has been instructed to stop talking about the Browns rookie.
Jones was interviewed about his near-decision to take on Johnny Manziel after the Cowboys won on Sunday's game. The 72-year-old Jones answered, "Well, I don't know how that's relevant."
He then added, "I'm really not so sure I'm ready to admit a mis-thought. It is not relevant, and I really have had some very stern, succinct instructions not to mention Johnny anymore from people who count. Let me put it like that."
It looks like Jones was no longer allowed to utter the name of Johnny Manziel or "Johnny Football" anymore.
Sitting on the bench did not do Johnny Manziel's jersey sales any good. He used to have the top-selling jerseys of the league, especially during the first fiscal quarter. However, by the end of the second fiscal quarter, from June 1st to August 31st, his jersey sales have dropped to being No. 7.
The No. 1 spot for jersey sales now belongs to Seahawks quarterback, Russell Wilson, according to the data provided by the NFL Players Association on Tuesday.
The NFLPA has been known to rank the league's players based on their jersey sales. However, it turns out that they also rank the players "based on total overall sales of all officially licensed products from online and traditional retail outlets as reported by more than 80 NFLPI licensees."
The licensees include Bleacher Creatures, Photo File, Fathead, Forever Collectibles, Fanatics, Nike, McFarlane Toys, VF Imagewear, Oyo Sportstoys, and Outerstuff.
Licensed products include youth, women's, and men's game jerseys, in addition to bobble heads, t-shirts, drink ware, figurines, collectibles, murals, matted and framed photos, and different kinds of electronic accessories.
