University of Kansas Hospital suspects another Ebola case after a patient was admitted on Monday for manifesting the symptoms of the deadly disease.
The patient who worked as a medical officer in a commercial ship in the west coast of Africa is currently under isolation while the result of the test is still expected to arrive on Tuesday evening. According to earlier reports, the unnamed patient visited the hospital at around 6 a.m. on Monday while having high fever and other symptoms like that of the deadly virus. Just four days ago, the medical officer reportedly treated patients with the same symptoms, but he did not know if any of those patients are actually infected with the disease.
Although the unnamed suspected Ebola patient is under strict isolation, Lee Norman, the chief medical officer of the said hospital in Kansas says that unconfirmed case is at a low to moderate risk. Norman also said that the patient's symptoms could also fit with other disease; however, they are still very cautious in terms of following the guidelines that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) impose.
While the patient remains isolated in Kansas hospital, doctors are actually hopeful that he is not positive with the Ebola virus. On the other hand, they are also convinced that the condition of the patient did not worsen during his stay in the facility while showing normal levels of hemoglobin and other blood counts and not showing signs of hemorrhage which is associated with the disease. If the results will become positive, it will be the third confirmed case of the deadly infection in the U.S.
The U.S. already has two confirmed cases of Ebola. The first patient was Thomas Duncan, a native from Liberia who arrived in the country in September and died on Wednesday. The second infected person is Nina Pham, the nurse who took care of Duncan while he was admitted in a hospital in Texas.
