Hayride Accident Maine Killed One, Injured 20; Accident Blamed On Mechanical Problems

Hayride accident Maine left one teenage girl dead and 20 more injured. The Halloween-themed hayride, which was packed with passengers, malfunctioned and crashed downhill into the woods.

Cassidy Charette, a 17-year-old Oakland local died from the injuries that she got from the hayride accident Maine after the Gauntlet Haunted Night Ride flipped over last Saturday night. Sgt. Joel Davis of the state fire marshal's office said that the Mechanic Falls crash "threw everyone off the trailer and into each other and into trees."

The authorities have stated that a mechanical problem prevented the SUV responsible for pulling the wagon from stopping.

Bystanders were quick to help those who were injured, while some even performed CPR. According to Davis, those who were able to help likely helped prevent the results of the crash from getting a lot worse.

Nearly half a dozen of the hayride accident Maine victims remained admitted in the hospital on Sunday afternoon, but doctors did not find their injuries to be life-threatening.

An Oakland resident, Kathy Mathieu, mentioned that the community now has plans for a fundraiser for Charette's family.

"Everybody is doing everything they can to help this family," Mathieu stated. "There are no words to express the sorrow for the parents."

The hay wagon involved in the hayride accident Maine was actually being pulled by a 1979 Jeep when it crashed, according to the fire marshal's office. David Brown, the 54-year-old driver of the Jeep was among those who were brought to the hospital. He is an experienced trucker who has a commercial driver's license.

The New England farm was set on a forested hill in a rural area that was approximately 25 miles to the southwest of Augusta. Farm spokesperson, Scott Lansley, said, "Our hearts and prayers go out to the family. We're a tight community. This is really a tragedy for us."

Lansley said that the haunted ride has been operating without incident. He said that the ride was busy last Saturday night, having over 500 patrons. However, when the hayride accident Maine happened, the entire park was immediately evacuated.
