Ebola Dallas Texas - The second case of Ebola has been confirmed in a Texas nurse who had been in close contact with Thomas Duncan. Duncan was the first case of Ebola noted in the United States. With the Texas nurse having been infected despite wearing full protective gear, was there really a breach of protocol?
The Ebola Dallas Texas case was first noted in Thomas Duncan. Duncan had travelled to Texas after his visit from Liberia. Symptoms of Ebola did not immediately occur and once he had sought medical attention for fever, health representatives had misdiagnosed Duncan. On his second visit to the hospital, Duncan was then confirmed to have been infected with Ebola.
Four days after the death of Thomas Duncan, the second case of Ebola Dallas Texas has been noted. The nurse had been in close contact with the patient Thomas Duncan during the period of his isolation and observation. While the nurse might have worn full protective gear, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention claim a breach in protocol had occurred.
"Unfortunately, it is possible in the coming days that we will see additional cases of Ebola. This is because the health-care workers who cared for this individual may have had a breach of the same nature," stated Director Tom Frieden.
Wearing and removing the protective gear against Ebola infection follows a strict procedure. The guidelines of the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention state that removal of the equipment follow an order that ensures the materials do not get in touch with the health worker's' skin, exterior of clothing and mucous membranes.
"It's not easy to do right," added Frieden.
Following the second Ebola Dallas Texas case, neighbors of the health worker infected are concerned over their wellbeing. In addition, the second case of Ebola has become a subject of fear amongst health representatives.
