South Korea news states the death of a Chinese fisherman after allegedly doing illegal activities in the country's water territory on Friday.
China is currently in rage after one of its men died during a confrontation between the South Korean coastal guard and the Chinese fisherman. According to the news, the tension grew between the two parties after the coastal guard tried to apprehend the fishermen, who were allegedly doing illegal activities as they approached the country's water territory. The confrontation between the two groups later on led to the death of the captain of one of the Chinese vessels.
The coastal guard officials reportedly boarded the Chinese vessels for inspection, after they were caught shipping within the territorial waters. The confrontation between the officials and the fishermen allegedly went violent after one of the ship's captains tried to resist the inspection. Another report says that, things got heated when a fishermen pulled at an officer's helmet and also attempted to strangle him.
According to the news, the 45 year-old fisherman was killed after a South Korean coast guard officer fired a warning shot. The unnamed Chinese national was then airlifted to the Mokpo Hankook hospital; however, he died 30 minutes after. Other updates also state that the groups of Chinese fishermen are fishing 90 miles west of Wangdeung-do, an island off the western part of South Korea.
The death of the Chinese man is said to have caused a strain in the current relationship that both countries have. China's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Hong Lei, already said that they are shocked and dissatisfied with the violent actions.
The recent news concerning the Chinese fishing boats and of the South Korean Coast Guard isn't new. In 2011, an officer was also killed by a Chinese fisherman during a fight in the said territory, while officers have caught about 220 Chinese ships for illegal fishing in 2013.
