Tina Knowles Opens Up About Her Low Self-Esteem Following Her Divorce; Queen Bey’s Mom Shares, ‘My Fight Came Back’

Tina Knowles was the keynote speaker at the annual Women & Money luncheon of Texas Women's Empowerment Foundation that was held last week. The speech that she gave was nothing that was short of inspiring.

Tina Knowles, Beyoncé's mother, shared her life story and even chronicled her transition in life, coming from someone with poor childhood to becoming a bustling businesswoman, to becoming a mother of an amazingly awesome international superstar, to becoming a 58-year-old divorcee.

She kicked off her speech by talking about her roots in Galveston, Texas. She mentioned a few things about her experience when she was working as a servant in a Catholic church. She said, "I became a warrior at five. I refused to let them take my spirit."

It was a good thing that she kept her spirit intact since it probably helped her a lot while she was going through her divorce with ex-husband Matthew Knowles, after being married to him for 33 years.

Tina Knowles added, "I was very sad. When you look at someone else, you look at them and say, 'They're attractive. They have a lot of good stuff going on for them. They have no right to have low self-esteem. They have no right to feel sorry for themselves."

"Well, it doesn't matter who you are, what you are, what you've done, what you have," she said. "You're a person. You're a human being. And when something strikes you like that, it takes breath out of you. And my fight came back."

She then continued, "After a while, I let myself feel sorry for myself for a minute and then I said, 'You know, I'm so blessed to have all the opportunities that I have. And I don't have the right to feel sorry.'"

Apparently, the Queen Bey's mother had a battle with self-esteem after her divorce. It would seem that she somehow lost sight of who she truly was. Having to start anew, she talked about how she finally decided to focus on herself.

Tina Knowles said, "So, I would tell my kids, 'You know what, you can call me and I'll be there if it's something important. But, otherwise, I'm taking care of Tina. This is my selfish moment.' And, before I knew it, I started liking me again! I started being important, not everybody else."
