It is another first for Coral Beach Resort -Sharjah. The 'dream venue for all occasions'now promises to protect its guests on the beach from the dangers of second-hand tobacco smoke.
"Smoking is optional, but breathing is not. So we've designated special non-smoking and smoking zones on the beach," says Jean Pierre Simon, Regional General Manager, Northern UAE Coral Hotels & Resorts, pointing out that the move is in keeping with global trends to protect non-smokers in public places.
"I think we're the first beach resort in the Northern Emirates to implement such a rule and it makes great sense considering that families find us the ideal venue to spend quality time together," he adds.
According to Simon, there's no longer a scientific controversy that second-hand smoke is a killer, with WHO quoting studies to show that itcauses the same problems as direct smoking, which include exposure to cancer-causing carcinogens. Many countries have introduced laws to eliminate smoking in public places.
"It's an alarming public health hazard and our concern is to protect the health of infants and children, who are especially at risk from sudden infant death syndrome, lung infections such as bronchitis, ear infections and asthma," observes Simon.
Coral Beach Resort is where discerning business and leisure travellers sojourn, many with their families. Says a guest who's a regular visitor, "The pristine clean beach, the range of facilities - it's all very family oriented and the staffis so friendly they even remember our names."
