Al Sharpton recently had a star-studded party for his 60th birthday. Although there were dozens of celebrities who attended the event, the party is now quite known for something else that transpired that night. A top civil rights lawyer has now been accused of raping a woman at his Manhattan home after Al Sharpton's party.
As reported by the New York Daily News, the 70-year-old Sanford Rubenstein, a high-powered New York attorney, allegedly sexually assaulted a woman at his highly luxurious apartment after Al Sharpton's event, which was held at the internationally famous 4-star Four Seasons restaurant earlier this week.
Sources told the paper that the 42-year-old woman, who was allegedly the rape victim, was actually an executive who had links to Al Sharpton. Rubenstein was charged when the victim became "incapable of consent," which means that she could have passed out or was very drunk at the time.
The NYPD, to date, has not given any comments with regards to this ongoing case, particularly as Rubenstein's law firm have yet to provide a statement on this story.
The civil rights organization National Action Network did release a statement, and it said, "National Action Network and Rev Al Sharpton has not been notified or advised by any official investigating authorities. The allegations, as reported, occurred at a private residence after a NAN event and had nothing to do with NAN or Rev Al Sharpton. Therefore, we have no comment at this time."
Rubenstein, one of the guests at Al Sharpton's soiree on Wednesday night, is actually a very famous New York lawyer and has been involved numerous times in a number of high-profile cases. He has recently been chosen as the lawyer for Sandra Amezquita, who is a heavily pregnant woman who claimed that some NYPD officers threw her to the ground belly-first while she was being arrested.
