‘Disney’ Icon Lea Salonga Wows Crowd As She Sings ‘A Whole New World’; Broadway Star's Voice As Princess Jasmine and Mulan [VIDEO]

Lea Salonga, a Disney Legend relives Princess Jasmine of the 1992 film, "Aladdin" through her magical voice as she sings "A Whole New World" along with the singing group, Il Divo.

The video of the Broadway star singing the soundtrack of the said film recently gone viral on the internet. Her performance along with the opera group during their "A Musical Affair" world tour in April of this year, reportedly wowed the huge crowd as well as the YouTube viewers. The Filipina singer is actually the original voice of Princess Jasmine, who team up with Brad Kane as the voice of Aladdin.

Lea Salonga's "A Whole New World" performance is actually an ultimate throwback for the fans of the said film and of the said female cartoon character. It was in 1992 that the film was released, but the soprano singer's voice never seems to change, although it's been already 22 years since the song became a phenomenon. Aside from becoming the voice of the princess character, she is also the one responsible giving a vocal sound for another Disney character, Mulan.

Aside from gaining various recognitions for becoming a Disney icon through her beautiful voice, the talented singer also made a huge name in the field of theater. Lea Salonga is also famously known for her participation in "Miss Saigon" wherein she is cast as the lead role, Kim. The Filipina actress who is also a singing coach of "The Voice Philippines" won a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical in 1991 for the said Broadway play.

The 43 year-old singer-actress also made a mark in the history of theater when she became the first Asian actress to play the role of Eponine for the "Les Miserables" in Broadway. Lea Salonga also portrayed the role of Fantine during the musical's 25th anniversary concert. Aside from becoming a Disney Legend in 2011, she also received numerous awards such as the Tony, Olivier, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle.
