Teens arrested on Wednesday after killing 920 chickens in Fresno, California.
Four people are held in custody after being pointed as the responsible individuals for slaughtering a huge number of birds. According to early reports, a massive population of the said group of animals has been beaten to death with the use of a golf club and other dull object. The men reportedly break into the premises of the Foster Farms facility in Caruthers, California on September 20.
According to a report from the Associated Press, the group of teens was able to enter the said facility by pulling a fence. Once inside the farm, they started killing a large number of chickens, which was summed up to 920. Among the arrested individuals were three juveniles and one 18 year-old suspect identified as Gabriel Quintero from Riverdale.
Two of the juvenile suspects are from Caruthers, aging 15 and 17 while the third suspect is identified as a 17 year-old male from Lemoore. A statement coming from the Fresno County Sheriff's Office said that authorities were able to locate the suspects after receiving tips and relevant details that were spread in the social media.
The killing of the chickens has been labeled by the Foster Farms as an unconscionable act of animal cruelty. According to the company's statement, the total worth of the animals slaughtered by the teens is estimated at about $5,000. With the widely-publicized act of animal cruelty, the company along with the animal rights group, Animal Defense League previously announced a reward to the public if the responsible person will be arrested.
Authorities have already booked the arrested teens on the charges of burglary and felony cruelty to animals for killing the chickens. The unnamed juveniles were sent to the Fresno County Juvenile Justice Center while Quintero was sent to jail.
