Shooting of Jordan Davis trial has been concluded. Although the shooting of Jordan Davis occurred back in 2012, jurors have found Michael Dunn to be guilty of first-degree murder on Wednesday.
Dunn's parents were in the courtroom to hear the sentence given to their son. Davis' parents, Lucia MacBath and Ron Davis, were present as well. They both let out gasps when they heard the jury forewoman's words, hung their heads, and sobbed.
At first, Dunn did not give any reaction upon hearing the sentence. A few minutes later, he turned around and looked at his father, then somberly shook his head.
The 47-year-old Dunn was charged with murder after he reportedly shot into an SUV that was full of teenagers at a gas station in Jacksonville, Florida. According to the investigation, the altercation was due to a minor squabble over loud music that came from the teens' vehicle.
Outside the courtroom, Davis' mother was very thankful for the verdict. According to her, the verdict represented justice not only for her dead son, but for "Trayvon and for all the nameless faces and children and people that will never have a voice."
She was actually referring to Trayvon Martin, an unarmed teenager who was killed earlier the same year that her son died. Martin was reportedly killed by a neighborhood watch captain who ended up acquitted in the death.
She stated, "Words cannot express our joy, but also our great sorrow because we know that Jordan has received his justice. We know that Jordan's life and legacy will live on for others, but at the same time, we're very saddened by the life that Michael Dunn will continue to live. We are saddened for his family, for his friends and the community that will continue to suffer by his actions."
