Boehner ISIS statement says that the United States may have "no choice" when it comes to the infamous terrorist group. According to House Speaker John Boehner, the United States will have to send American troops in order to fight the militants operating under ISIS if the current US strategy ends up failing to extinguish the extremists for good.
Boehner ISIS statements were actually made on ABC's "This Week" segment on Sunday. He was not hesitant in expressing his beliefs that the approach that President Barack Obama chose to take will be efficient in accomplish his stated goals. According to the Ohio Republican, it will need more than just air strikes and a lot more effort in order to completely destroy ISIS.
Boehner also heavily criticized President Obama for officially stating that he will not be sending American ground troops. He told George Stephanopoulos, "If I were the President, I probably wouldn't have talked about what I wouldn't do. And, maybe, we can get enough of these forces trained to get 'em on the battlefield. But somebody's boots have to be there."
He was also asked about his beliefs on whether or not he would have the American troops engage in a ground fight if "somebody" did not step up. Boehner ISIS responded, "We have no choice, these are barbarians. They intend to kill us. And if we don't destroy them first, we're gonna pay the price."
According to multiple online reports, President Obama's decision not to send out American forces was because he wanted to rely on Iraqi forces, Kurdish troops, and Syrian "moderate" rebels, who will be trained to fight soon, for a ground campaign.
Moreover, despite Boehner ISIS statements, it has been reported that over 70% of today's US soldiers oppose committing to combat operations on the ground in Iraq. Additionally, a recent CNN poll that was released just earlier this month showed that 61% of Americans also oppose having to place American troops in Iraq.
