Travelling is always a rewarding experience, the exposure to a new place, people and culture never leaves us the same.
Have you ever stopped to think about how large and vast the world is and how we decided to settle in just a single city or country? Whenever we travel we are inspired to fly to new lands and venture out to the unknown seas. Now how about doing all of this for less? Here are 10 tips on how to make your travels for less:
1 - Schedule your vacation in advance, preferably in periods outside peak seasons such as December, January, June and July. Also remember that the sooner you buy the tickets the less they will bite into your pocket.
2 - If you are traveling outside of abroad, never fill your luggage completely, leave space for purchases abroad and gifts, unless you are willing to spend money on buying a new luggage bag abroad.
3 - Parking your car at the airport is expensive; never do this, especially if your trip is long. Ideally take a taxi or ask a friend to drive you and offer to pay the gas.
4 - Bring along a travel cosmetic bag with shampoo, conditioner, soap, razor, toothbrush, toothpaste, hair comb, nail clippers, cotton swabs and other personal hygiene products you may need. Making these purchases abroad is probably more expensive and you will have to spend precious sightseeing time to get these.
5 - If the local hotels are too pricy for you, then you may opt for a hostel and share the room with others. You can choose to stay in a room for 2 or up to 15 people, depending on how much you want to pay.
6 - Avoid appearing too much like a tourist. Walking the streets with an open map, a camera around your neck and a wallet full of cash can attract the bad guys on the street. Be careful where you walk.
7 - Want to take a taxi? Before doing so, search the shortest and fastest route online or ask the hotel/hostel staff to help you. Trusting a taxi drive to get you around, could be very pricy. Also many big cities have very efficient public transport who can run 24 hours a day why not give the subway or bus a try?
8 - Pay attention to the menus of restaurants and bars, some places tend to have different prices for residents and tourists, some cities charge up to double the price to a tourist that what a local person would pay.
9 - Is your money running out? Don't spend money at the laundry shop; rather wash your small pieces by hand and save the money for the other things you enjoy.
10 - Only exchange money at official bureau de change counters. Avoid any people in the street claiming to buy or sell currency. Always opt to pay with smaller bills, using a large bill allows room for someone to deceive you.
Enjoy your trip!
