Hawking an atheist has not only explained that he doesn't believe in God but also added that science offers a better explanation than religion. This is not the first time the astrophysicist has spoken up about religion and science. In his interview with The Guardian in 2011, Stephen Hawking an atheist also claimed heaven was simply a "fairy story."
For Hawking an atheist, science and religion do not mix. Not only did the theoretical physicist claim that he does not believe in God, he adds that there is no God. This statement was published in the El Mundo as reported by Pablo Jáuregui.
"If we discover a complete [unifying] theory, it would be the ultimate triumph of human reason-for then we should know the mind of God. What I meant by 'we would know the mind of God' is, we would know everything that God would know, if there were a God, which there isn't. I'm an atheist. Before we understand science, it is natural to believe that God created the universe. But now science offers a more convincing explanation," stated Hawking.
In addition to Hawking an atheist claiming God is not a real entity, the renowned physicist also added that earth isn't the only planet that harbours intelligent life. As for Hawking, this is not the first time the scientist has hinted on his atheism.
Back in 2010, the physicist was questioned on his belief with regards to the origin of life. For Stephen Hawking an atheist, all this was simply a chemical process and not due to a divine presence.
"One might take this as evidence of a divine creator, but an alternative explanation is what is known as the multiverse," stated Hawking.
In addition, another interview in 2011 published in The Guardian, Hawking an atheist claims there is no heaven and that it is simply a "fairy story for people afraid of the dark."
