Wrongfully Convicted William Lopez Dies Shortly After Released From Prison

William Lopez, the wrongfully convicted man dies just a year after he was released from prison.

It has been more than two decades that the 55 year-old former imprisoned guy spent his time in jail for the crime that was believed he did not commit. According to the earlier reports, the ex-convict guy was charged with murder after it was believed that he shot down a suspected drug dealer to death. Although no strong evidence has been found that links him to the said case, he was still sentenced to serve the said amount of time in prison.

It was just last year that federal judge Nicholas Garaufis threw the sentence. With no hard evidence found that would strongly attach William Lopez to the murder, Garaufis said that the crime was already rotten making the man wrongfully convicted. Although he had been released last January 2013 due to the proven faulty evidence where it was said that the murder weapon was not even recovered, his taste of freedom is just brief after he dies on Saturday.

23 years in prison is surely a huge amount of time to catch up. William Lopez who has been separated from his wife when he was sent to jail also tried to build a relationship with his child who was just about 14 months old when he was wrongfully convicted; however, more than one year of being out from prison bars is quite too short for him to make up with what he missed. Report says that he dies from a complication from his asthma attack last weekend.

William Lopez who dies from a complication also filed a lawsuit against the city after being wrongfully convicted with a 23 year-prison sentence. A 4124 million worth lawsuit that was filed last June claims malicious prosecution and violation of his constitutional rights, Huffington Post says.
