Deaf Man Killed By Deputy: Florida Man Shot By Volusia County Deputy, Deputy Under Investigation, At Fault For Shots Fired?

Deaf man killed by deputy - A 52-year old man from Florida has been shot to death by a Volusia County deputy named Joel Hernandez. The victim named Edward Miller was reportedly deaf and had trouble hearing the instructions stated by Hernandez. Miller had brandished a firearm, which Hernandez immediately saw as a threat causing the deputy to fire shots.

The deaf man killed by deputy Hernandez had six shots fired at him. Miller's 25 year old son present during the altercation saw Hernandez fire two bullets that hit the windshield and followed it up with four additional shots.

According to reports, Hernandez along with his partner had walked up to Edward Miller after hearing the latter in a dispute with employees of the two yard. Miller had brandished a firearm hidden under his shirt, which according to his son was licensed. Deputy Hernandez seeing this as a threat had shots fired.

The family of Miller, the deaf man killed by Deputy Hernandez, have now hired an attorney to look into the case given Edward's case. Edward was reportedly deaf due to a childhood illness. In addition, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is also investigating the death of the deaf man killed by Deputy Hernandez.

Before the incident of the deaf man killed by Deputy Hernandez, Hernandez was involved in another death late last year. The Volusian county deputy had shot an armed man who was on the brink of suicide and had not taken heed to orders by the police.

Another incident before the death of the deaf man killed by Deputy Hernandez took place a month ago. Hernandez had reportedly kicked a man in the face after resisting arrest. Due to his actions, Deputy Hernandez had received reprimand from the office of the sheriff for causing injury due to excessive force.
