According to the New Brunswick prosecutor, Andrew Carey, the 19-year-old Caitlyn Kovacs died at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at 3:19 a.m., which was only less than a half hour after her friends noticed that she "appeared to be in distress." As reported by NJ.com, Carey has still not filed any charges since the autopsy results are still pending.
Still, the local police have already launched an official investigation after the hospital officials notified them that the initial findings showed signs that Kovacs' death may have been alcohol-related. With this new finding, the police then proceeded with the investigation by interviewing the fraternity brothers who were at the DKE house later in the day.
The Rutgers chapter of the DKE or Delta Kappa Epsilon has stated that the fraternity has 55 current members. Moreover, the fraternity has also offered their condolences on its official Facebook page. Doug Laphner, the DKE International Executive Director, said in a statement, "As the investigation of the incident is ongoing, Delta Kappa Epsilon is fully cooperating with local and county authorities."
Kovacs, the victim of Rutgers frat house death, was actually a sophomore student who majored in animal sciences at the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. According to the Daily Targum, a student-run publication, Kovacs was at the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity house to take part in a small gathering.
