For the Dallas Cowboys, there should be no other option out there aside from acquiring running back Adrian Peterson, who is currently in a big mess in the wake of multiple child abuse accusations against him.
Shan Shariff, a Sports show host of Dallas's 105.3 The Fan, believed the Peterson's situation offers the best time for the Cowboys to snag the former NFL MVP from the Minnesota Vikings.
According to Shariff, acquiring Peterson would be a perfect Christmas present for Jerry Jones and the Cowboys after they missed on several free-agents and 'elite' prospects such as Johnny Manziel of the Cleveland Browns.
"Christmas may have just come early for the Dallas Cowboys," Shariff stated on his show. "An unbelievable opportunity may be on the horizon where the best running back in football could be available. Jerry Jones can once again swing for the green he missed in Johnny Manziel. Adrian Peterson could be coming home"
Peterson, who was indicted by a grand jury on charges of child abuse after inflicting injuries to his son by whipping him with a switch, could be on his way out of Minnesota as the Vikings look to unload his hefty contract.
With immense pressure coming from the public, the Vikings decided on Tuesday to ban Peterson from playing until all legal issues are resolved. Vikings general manager Rick Spielman has been vocal in their plans on Petersons, stressing all options are open with regards to dealing with the running back's situation.
"We are, as an organization, still in the process of gathering information, and at the end of the weekend we will discuss what we will do going forward," Spielman told NBC Sports. "You don't want to make any kneejerk reactions. All options are on the table. You can't take any options off the table because we're still gathering information.
As Peterson's child abuse case continues to spiral out of control, there are speculations that the Vikings could pull off a trade to get rid of Peterson once and for all.
NFL veteran insider Mike Florio of NBC Sports is one of the proponents of this idea, as he believed the Vikings' decision to trade Peterson would be a wise decision since the running back will receive bigger paychecks until 2017.
"Already in the big-money years of a contract that devotes way too much cash to a devalued position, the charges against Peterson could sufficiently diminish his standing in the eyes of the fan base to allow the Vikings to free themselves of salaries of $12.75 million in 2015, $14.75 million in 2016, and $15.75 million in 2017," Florio stated.
As trade possibilities loom large, there are rumors about the Cowboys' possible coup to to finally acquire their 'dream' running back in Peterson.
Eric Goldschein of SportsGrid has a nice take on the current situation, including a AP's possible trip to Big D.
"It would be difficult to trade a soon-to-be 30-year-old running back facing a possible prison sentence, of course - but if anyone would get looks anyway, it'd be a transcendent talent like AP."
"Is this how Peterson becomes a Cowboy? (Probably not, since Dallas is already over the cap next season - but Jerry Jones is one of the only owners willing to withstand the firestorm of criticism in order to get his man.)"
The Cowboys need more firepower to their offense after losing key defensive personnel to injuries in training camp. According to analysts, the only way the Cowboys would become a playoff contender is to outscore their opponents. Peterson, who covered over 10,000 yards and scored 86 TDs in his career, could be a solution to the 'Boys need this season.
Then again, will the trade to Dallas ever happen? Only time will tell.
